The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) Foundation successfully raised funds to install a second CT scanner in its Emergency Department to cut down critical delays for trauma and stroke patients. The hospital aimed to raise $2.5 million via community fundraising and tax appeals to purchase a vital second CT scanner.
Prior to the addition, a single CT scanner struggled to keep up with the massive volume of patients coming through the Emergency Department (over 80–90 emergency patients needing time-critical scans daily).
Having a second scanner in the ED has doubled scanning capacity for emergency cases, delivering faster diagnoses for stroke, trauma, and internal injuries.
